Medicare in San Diego County
San Diego County has one of the largest Medicare populations in California, which means you have a wide range of plans to choose from — both an advantage and a source of confusion.
Plan availability, provider networks, drug formularies, and extra benefits vary by carrier and can change every year, so what worked last year may not be your best option now. As an independent agent I review the plans available in your ZIP code and compare them side by side, so you understand exactly what each one covers before you decide.
The goal is simple: the right plan for your health, your doctors, and your budget.
Medicare coverage options I help you compare
Medicare Advantage (Part C): all-in-one plans from private carriers that combine hospital and medical coverage, usually include prescription drugs, and often add dental, vision, hearing, transportation, and over-the-counter allowances.
Prescription drug plans (Part D): stand-alone drug coverage to pair with Original Medicare.
Medicare Supplement (Medigap): plans that help cover the out-of-pocket costs Original Medicare leaves behind.
I also help with life insurance and final expense coverage, annuities and retirement income, and 401(k) rollovers. For families without a Social Security number, I offer life insurance options that accept an ITIN.
How to choose a plan in San Diego
The lowest premium is not always the best plan. Before you enroll it is worth checking a few things.
Are your doctors and preferred hospitals in the plan network? San Diego is served by major health systems such as Scripps Health, Sharp HealthCare, UC San Diego Health, Kaiser Permanente, and Palomar Health, and not every plan includes every network.
Are your prescriptions on the plan formulary, and at what cost? What is the plan maximum out-of-pocket for the year? And which extra benefits actually matter to you?
I check all of this for you, so there are no surprises after you enroll.
Medicare enrollment periods in 2026
Timing matters. The Initial Enrollment Period is the seven months around your 65th birthday.
The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 to December 7, when you can join, switch, or drop a plan for the following year. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 to March 31.
You may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you move, lose other coverage, or have certain life changes. Missing a window can mean waiting a year or paying a late penalty.
Why work with a local, independent bilingual agent
Because I am independent, I am not tied to one insurance company — I compare top-rated carriers and recommend what is best for you, not for a single company.
I am fully bilingual, so everything is explained clearly in English or Spanish, at your pace. And my help costs you nothing: licensed agents are paid by the insurance companies, not by you.
What to expect from your free consultation
We start with a short, no-pressure conversation about your health needs, your doctors and medications, and your budget.
Then I compare the plans available where you live and walk you through the best options.
If you decide to enroll, I handle the paperwork with you and stay available all year for questions, claims help, and your annual review.
Availability, cost, benefits, and eligibility vary by person, product, contract, and insurance company, as well as by your service area. Guarantees are subject to the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company. Karla Arámburo is not affiliated with or endorsed by Medicare or the federal government.
